NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE MASTER OF CLINICAL INVESTIGATION

Clinicians are well placed to identify gaps in knowledge that are relevant to the causes, diagnosis and treatment of disease, and to conduct research that will make a significant impact on patient care.

The National University of Singapore - Master of Clinical Investigation (NUS MCI) Program has been designed to meet the needs of clinicians in healthcare institutions who desire to incorporate scientifically sound research into their clinical practice.

A) Goal of the program

The goal of the program is to equip clinicians with the basic methodological and practical skills to design and conduct clinical investigations that are relevant to patient care. These include studies aimed at evaluating :

  • new treatments and technologies,
  • diagnostic modalities,
  • mechanisms of human disease,
  • determinants of disease outcomes, and
  • effectiveness of health services.

The course also provide the foundation for those who may wish to pursue advanced clinical research training, including that leading to a PhD degree.

B) Academic Course Structure

The MCI program is completed in two years, with the option to extend for a third year if more time is required to finish the research component.

C) Scholarships

To promote clinical and translational research in Singapore, the Ministry of Health will be providing scholarships for outstanding clinicians who are interested in enrolling in the MCI programme. The scholarship is open to clinicians who are Singaporean citizens or permanent residents. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will automatically be considered for the scholarship.
